Over the hill from the fishing village lies a tranquil beach, which appears like a pure white crescent inlaid on the emerald-green sea. The coral sand on the beach is soft and white, and the unpolluted seawater is crystal-clear. Swimmers can see their own toes while standing neck deep in the ocean. Diving enthusiasts can go further offshore, where they can view red coral colonies and tropical fish.
At dawn, visitors can climb the hilltop to witness the sun rising over the sea. Then, if the weather remains sunny, tourists can while away the hours watching fishermen bring in their morning catch, or try fishing themselves. When night falls, it is possible to camp on the beach, and fall asleep gazing at the blinking lights of the fishing boats as they bob on the water.

Outer Lingding Island
Outer Lingding Island is likely unfamiliar even to most Chinese. But whenever Lingding Sea is mentioned, history buffs will think of Wen Tianxiang, a Southern Song national hero who organized a resistance against the invasion of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). After being captured by the Yuan troops, he refused to surrender despite bribery and torture. On the way to Yuan prison, he wrote a famous poem, Passing the Lingding Sea, expressing his wish that he would rather die than surrender his honor. The Outer Lingding Island is located right on the Lingding Sea.
Outer Lingding Island is very small, with an area of 4.23 square kilometers. Its main peak stands only 311.8 meters above sea level. It is more notable for its many picturesque bays, enthralling landscapes, and interesting rock formations. Some reefs resemble human figures or animals, of which the most famous are the Sea-Watching Rock and the Peacock Rock.
Adjacent to Hong Kong, the island enjoys a favorable geographical location and abounds in tourist attractions. Because of this, it has witnessed a rapid development in its tourist industry and become a well-known holiday destination in recent years. The island is equipped with holiday villages, hotels, nightclubs, and food streets. Dadong Bay features soft sand and clear waters, and is an ideal place for angling, swimming, and surfing.
Outer Lingding Island is also famous for three kinds of seafood: goose barnacles, black abalones, and sea urchins, which are together known as the “three treasures of Lingding.”
