When to Visit

The best season to visit Turpan is from July to September, when local fruits are all ripe. However, summer days are extremely hot. A local saying holds that the sunshine is so intense that one can “cook eggs in sand and pancakes on the wall.” However, the temperature can drop drastically at night, so tourists are advised to bring a variety of clothing options.

What to See

The most famous tourist attractions in Turpan include the Ancient City of Jiaohe, the Ancient City of Gaochang, Astana Tombs, Flaming Mountain, Grape Valley, Emin Minaret, Aydingkol Lake, Kumtag Desert, and Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves.
